Everyone loved this book! Though there was a vast amount of historical, architectural, economic and social information contained in the novel, the story was written in such a compelling manner, several members commented that they “couldn’t put it down”. Even the ‘Notes and Sources’ at the back of the book were interesting and it was amusing to talk about how that’s a section frequently skipped or skimmed. The main theme of the book was identifies as portraying a society in great flux and on the verge of a new modern era. The novel definitely brings this to life.
