The discussion for the book of month July 2008

Most people found parts of this book interesting and informative. The examples of how the internet has impacted the world (economically, socially, politically) and has provided opportunities for many of those who have previously been unable to participate in these arenas globally. Though clearly written for a primarily American audience as a “wake up call” to run faster in the technological race (or be left behind), he managed, for the most part, to present his observations in a balanced and fair way, without falling into the trap of transmitting fear and urgency to those who don’t have sophisticated computer skills or depend on computers to directly support their work or lifestyle. One of the questions that was asked (and not addressed within the scope of the book) was how this acceleration in dependence on technology is going to effect social skill and human interaction in the future.
