"Continental Drift" by Russell Banks

Though most people thought this book was gloomy and depressing and
had difficulty finishing it, there were a couple of members that
found this story was an interesting look at desperate people in
hopeless and desperate situations. The constant sense of anger and
violence underlying many of the characters works to maintain a
feeling of tension and anxiety throughout the book. Banks portrays
Bob, the main protagonist - though reprehensible in many ways and
without any insight into the consequences of his actions, as a man
eventually attempting to redeem himself at the end of the story.
